Vet Mind Matters!

Did you know that people within the veterinary profession are 3-4 times more likely to commit suicide than the national average?

It is not clear if this is due to the stresses of the job, or simply the type of people attracted to the profession, or both. Lots of research is being conducted to try and find out why.

The veterinary profession is working hard to make a positive change to these current figures and has launched several initiatives that stretch across all sectors of our work.

At Valley Vets, we regard the mental well-being of everyone in our team as extremely important. We have many ways of ensuring everyone's mental health is looked after including team outings to boost morale, training and mental health awareness sessions and an open door management policy for dealing with any problems quickly and effectively.

Last year the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and the Society of Practising Veterinary Surgeons (SPVS) launched the profession's first ever 'WELLBEING AWARDS' as a way to 'recognise practices with management systems and initiatives that motivate and engage their staff and who can demonstrate their commitment to being a better place to work'.

Our Practice Manager Nichi, and our Directors work tirelessly to continuously improve the working environment at Valley Vets and after entering the competition, we were pleased to find out that we had won our category!

Nichi was invited to the Veterinary Practice Managers Association Annual Congress last month to receive our award and to take part in a discussion forum sharing the things that we do with other practices.

Many congratulations are due for all our team who make Valley Vets such a great place to work, which in turn makes it such a great place for you to bring your pets!
