DOGS
Valley Vets Ltd are pleased to offer a comprehensive service to all owners of dogs.
We strongly advise vaccination of all puppies, starting as young as seven weeks of age.
We strongly advise routine annual health checks and vaccinations against Canine Distemper Virus, Canine Adeno Virus, Parainfluenza Virus, Parvo Virus and Leptospirosis. We also advise vaccination against Bordetella Bronchoseptica (kennel cough) for dogs going to kennels.
We advised regular deworming (at least every three months for adult dogs) and preventative treatment for fleas. Please contact the surgery for individual advice.
We have seperate dog kennels in all our surgeries as well as seperate isolation kennels for infectious cases.
We provide comprehensive medical and surgical care including orthopaedic surgery. More complex othopaedic surgery is done at our Cardiff branch.
We have comprehensive in-house laboratory facilities, including biochemistry, electrolyte and haematological analysis, as well as specialised diagnostic equipment such as ultrasound, radiography and endoscopy.
Our surgeries in Cardiff and Ystrad Mynach share their premises with an emergency service called Veterinary Emergency Treatment Service Ltd (V.E.T.S.). This means that we can provide complete 24 hour care to our patients, on-site.
Our nursing staff are willing to discuss diet and husbandry requirements of dogs and our nurse clinics are free of charge.
We employ local veterinary inspectors in all our surgeries that are able to complete PETS Passports for travelling abroad and other official documentation needed for importing and exporting dogs.
All three of our surgeries are RCVS Accredited Practices for Small Animals, Tier II status.
Valley Vets Ltd encourages all clients to insure their pets for veterinary fees and third party liability.
RVN Nursing Team
Our Cardiff and Ystrad Mynach branches are accredited Veterinary Nurse Training Practices. Student veterinary nurses work alongside our qualified staff and attend external college regularly, to attain the qualifications necessary to become an RVN (Registered Veterinary Nurse). To retain this qualification, our RVN’s must attend regular and on-going training courses each and every year.
Our nurses will provide free advice to clients on the following subjects:
- Worming and flea control.
- Dental care.
- Obesity problems.
- Diets.
- Basic training problems.

Dog Sickness
Travel sickness (or 'motion sickness') is a common problem among dogs, especially when they are young. It is distressing for both the dog and its owner, and often restricts and diminishes the shared experience of travel.

Dogs Trust
Founded in 1891, Dogs Trust, formerly known as the NCDL, has always campaigned on dog-welfare related issues to ensure a safe and happy future for our four-legged friends.
Dogs Trust want to solve the problem of why there are so many unwanted dogs in the UK and seek to achieve this through practical measures and awareness-raising initiatives to educate and inform dog-owners and prospective dog-owners.
- In the last few years... Dogs Trust have built their West London and Glasgow centres - open for business March 2006 and Summer 2006 repectively.
- Dogs Trust found new homes for a total of 10,119 dogs last year. Their Regional Campaigns made a real difference to the lives of dogs.
- Dogs Trust constantly notice a year on year drop in the number of stray dogs and destructions in these areas.- all thanks to their work.
Dogs Trust Chief Executive Clarissa Baldwin with her rescue dog Bumble, joined Dogs Trust in 1974 when the organisation was just a small team. Today she heads an organisation employing more than 500 staff at our Head Office, 17 Rehoming Centres and out in the field.
